Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

Part of our responsibility as a school community is to contribute to the student's understanding of acceptable behaviour on school grounds, in the classroom, and in the digital sphere.

  • I am responsible for my own learning, and I allow others to learn.

  • I am responsible for treating everyone with respect, dignity, and kindness.

  • I am responsible for my own safety and the safety of others at all times.

  • I am responsible for keeping my personal space, my classroom, and my school environment clean and tidy.

  • I am responsible for ensuring the delivery of all forms of communication between school and home.

LANGUAGE

Students are expected to always express themselves in English when in class and when addressing the staff. The exception to this is during regular French classes.

DISCIPLINE AND BEHAVIOUR

Riverside Regional High School believes that all students have the right to learn, but that no student has the right to behave in a way that infringes upon the rights of others.  We recognize the primary role of parents as the first and best educators of their children; we also recognize the partnership that needs to exist between home and school.

Students who choose to conduct themselves in defiance of school expectations are subject to whatever consequences befit the misbehaviour or misdeed.

Students who choose to conduct themselves in defiance of school rules are subject to whatever consequences befit the misbehaviour or misdeed.

RULES FOR ATTENDANCE

According to the Basic School Regulations, all students are expected to be in class throughout the school day. In addition, all school organized activities are mandatory. However, there may be situations during the school year in which a student is absent from school. It is the parent’s responsibility to report his/her child’s absence to the school. It is the school’s responsibility to report repeated or suspicious absences.

Teachers take attendance and record absences and lateness in the computer each period.  The summary of their absences is shown on each report card.

LATE ARRIVALS

Students who arrive late must report to the secretary’s office. If the late arrival is justified by the parent, the student will receive a note (Late Slip) permitting them to enter class.
