Message from the General Directorate
for the 2024-2025 School Year
A new school year is beginning and this time of year, whether you're a student, staff member or parent, is invariably characterized by a mix of excitement, anticipation and effervescence.
This new school year also marks a new chapter in the leadership of our school board. Indeed, Mr. Stephen Pigeon, who has steered and skilfully led our school board for more than a decade as Director General, has decided to begin a new chapter. With 33 years of dedication and hard work to his credit, Mr. Pigeon is now retiring from the world of education. The CQSB is proud to have been able to count on his wise and sound guidance and will always be grateful for all the energy he deployed in ensuring that our students were provided with the best possible educational opportunities. Mr. Pigeon, we salute you!
The CQSB is therefore beginning the 2024-2025 school year under a new directorship and we, Stéphane Lagacé, Director General, and Nancy L’Heureux, Assistant Director General, assure you that our long tradition of excellence will continue, for the mission of our school board is truly embedded in our DNA:
“Support vibrant learning communities in its schools and centre that empower all students to receive the best possible education, to foster their social development and to prepare them to achieve their fullest potential and become contributing members of our ever-changing society.”
We are more than pleased to confirm that our school board is doing well. Our enrolment figures are still on the rise while our graduation and qualification rate is, as always, among the very best in the province (MEQ 2024). A true testament to the quality of the educational services offered by our dedicated school teams.
Throughout the year, you will be given the opportunity to witness how our mission continues to translate in the second of three cycles of our Commitment-to-Success Plan (CtSP) 2023-2027, in addition to better understanding CQSB’s vision of educational success moving into the future.
Speaking of the future, as you were informed last year, several projects were underway. Among those, was the construction of the New Liverpool Elementary School. Well, we made it! Our South Shore students are starting their new school year in their brand-new building in Lévis! Hats off to all those who contributed to making this dream become reality!
On a similar note, the construction of a new and much-needed extension for Riverside Regional Elementary School is ready. With Saguenay's student population steadily growing, this additional space will allow students and staff to benefit from the best possible learning opportunities within an ideal and comfortable environment.
Central Québec is going strong and just as our predecessors did, we truly believe in the sustainability of our English public education system and thank you for entrusting us with the education of your children.
On behalf of the management team of the Central Québec School Board, we wish you all an excellent school year!
