Preschool

(Kindergarten for 4-year-olds & 5-year-olds)

The Central Québec School Board provides the Preschool Cycle Program in the following schools, while offering 5 year old kindergarten in all elementary schools:

The Québec Ministry of Education has gradually over the years been permitting school boards to open 4-year-old preschool classrooms.  Due to the growing number of preschool classes, a new educational program was implemented in 2021-2022.  The Preschool Cycle Program address the development of both 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds.

THE MANDATE OF PRESCHOOL EDUCATION

To promote the overall development of all children by 

• offering a safe, caring, and inclusive living environment
• cultivating the pleasure of exploring, discovering, and learning
• setting up the basis for schooling

To implement preventive interventions by 

• providing universal prevention activities
• providing targeted prevention activities

Play-based learning is at the heart of the program.  Daily activities are offered to children respecting their needs, their interests, and their culture. The child acquires skills and learns based on the child’s current level of development and level of potential development.
